Presenters Overview

To fulfill Operation Lifesaver’s safety education mission, approximately 3,000 presenters nationwide deliver free presentations to a wide variety of groups about staying safe around railroad tracks and trains. Operation Lifesaver’s trained presenters truly “take safety to heart.”

Operation Lifesaver presenters are largely volunteers who donate their time to educating school groups, community organizations, driver education classes, professional drivers at trucking companies, emergency response personnel and law enforcement officers about highway-rail grade crossing safety and pedestrian rail trespass prevention. Other presenters represent local, state and federal government agencies, private companies, railroads, and other organizations.

Presenter Training

Operation Lifesaver presenters go through standardized training sessions that are continually updated with the latest materials and techniques, ensuring that they are equipped to give informative safety talks to a wide variety of audiences.

Who Becomes a Presenter?

Many people decide to go through presenter training after attending an Operation Lifesaver talk in their own community.
Some Operation Lifesaver state programs conduct teen speaking contests every year. The speech contest winners often become presenters and are particularly effective in reaching their peers.
Law enforcement officers and firefighters who may have responded to railroad crossing or pedestrian trespass incidents are also effective Operation Lifesaver presenters.
